About Me

So the name Barefoot & Starry-Eyed may sound a little funny to some, but let me paint you a picture. It’s nearing the end of a wedding reception. The cake has been cut, the bouquet has been tossed, the songs are starting to wind down, and the bride and groom are slow-dancing. The veil has been removed and maybe her hair is a little out of place from the events of the day. She’s shed her fussy shoes and is wrapped up in the arms of her new husband. They are talking quietly to each other while they sway. Maybe they are talking about how they can’t wait to drive off and be alone, maybe they are gossiping about how Aunt so-and-so was tearing up the dance floor- you never know!

But if you look carefully you’ll see that starry-eyed moment. The moment when they look at each other and know that the big day is almost over and they are just themselves- two people in love with each other at the beginning of their marriage. It’s such a blissful and beautiful moment. That is the feeling that I want to capture for you so that you can preserve it for years to come.

DSC_0352My name is Karen Watson. I’m a Merritt Island native, a wife, and mother of two amazing kids. I have an extensive art background and love to create. I work part time as a visual merchandiser for a department store and have a small business doing gift cakes as well. I fell in love with photography in college and began photographing weddings in 2009.

My approach to photography is photo-journalistic. This means I like to shoot life as it happens. I prefer natural, genuine expressions over stiff, posed ones. I won’t dictate every moment and every shot taken. I try to blend in with the guests and catch those special candid moments that happen when you think no one is watching. My husband, Jason, is my second shooter and the technical part of the team. I am the dreamer and the artist while he is the mechanically inclined realist- it makes for a balanced work relationship and some great pictures for you!
